My xbox thinks games are dvds?

so i have 2 xbox's. one i stopped using because it wouldnt read the disks and when it did it thought it was a dvd. the other got that red ring and wouldnt work. so i decided to actually take out the disk drive and put it in the other. but still only reads the games as dvds.... so it has nothing to do with th disk drive. does anybody know what i would do? i have no warranty so i dont think i can send it to microsoft. is my xbox done for? sorry for any misspellings im using my phone.
